I am Holli. I am married to Drew and we have a blended family with 5 children (most of whom are adults now!). We live in upstate New York in the Capital Region.
About that making sandwiches and going crazy line? I never was one to make lunches for my kids or Drew. Even now when we need lunches I generally pack a lunch box full of snack foods – hard boiled eggs, a few oranges, some string cheese, some pepperoni and some crackers seem to do it for us.
What I really mean is I am in the thick of my sandwich generation era. That means I care for my older parents while I have adult children who need guidance and assistance and a child who is a teenager and still needs me (most of the time). I am not alone – if you are in your 40s and 50s and your parents are still alive and you have bred then you are probably with me on this. And the Baby Boomers are generally living longer and the Millenials and GenZ are having a harder time buying homes and saving enough money to live on their own.
Plus I was a geriatric mother-to-be with my youngest at 39 so I have that going for me.
A little more about me:
- My mother lives with us and she has Alzheimer’s. I am her primary caretaker.
- I have an elementary education degree and I homeschool.
- I have several crafty hobbies including miniatures (for dollhouses or to stand alone).
- I have been designing websites since the late 1900s.
- I have recently started to design ebooks and other types of printable materials.
- I am on trustee and committee boards of several non-profits
- I love to cook and have tried to share that with my kids and their friends.
- We live in a late 1800s farmhouse that we have nicknamed The Money Pit. It’s 4 apartments and there was no long term plan in the construction. We are constantly finding new surprises within walls.
So yeah things are pretty nuts around here. And that’s kind of the only way I can exist. However it’s not without its faults and drawbacks. Hoping that having a digital place for everything might help. So strap in buttercup.
